Do you Sometimes Feel Lonely in a Crowd?

Do you ever feel lonely in a crowd? It is okay.

“Wrong does not cease to be wrong because the majority share in it.” Tolstoy

As some leaders fall off their pedestals of state, while others remain despite their worse transgressions, we might ask ourselves to reflect and do better. We can do better and most of us do, quietly and effectively. In a world of trending hashtags, unapologetic sycophancy and “us vs them” politics, it’s tempting to mistake numbers for morality. The greater good can be a path of evil means justifying ends. Yet in life the journey matters as much as the destination. The only regrets you will hold onto are those where you hurt others. Perhaps remember: • Consensus ≠ Conscience • Popularity ≠ Truth • Majority ≠ JusticePopulism runs on applause and it does feel nice to be popular. But who are you popular with. Seek to surround yourself with people you would aspire to be like. Not just those who applaud you.

The best of Leadership runs on integrity because of the responsibility you bear for those who choose to follow you.

Have you ever noticed how you will often try harder for others than you might do for yourself.

👉 The real challenge is acting ethically even when it costs you likes, votes, or approval.

And whose approval did you get? What value is it to you?Doing the right thing even when nobody is watching.

Saying “I am sorry,” with sincerity and meaning, “I will endeavour not to repeat that mistake.”

Owning the mistake. Reflecting on it. Learning from it. Not, “I am sorry I got caught,” as too many of our politicians do as they wriggle uncomfortably hoping that their other values will tip the balance in their favour. A thumb on the scale of justice.

When did you last pause and ask yourself:Am I right because it’s right, or just because enough people agree?

With a castle behind me I am reminded of Machiavelli suggesting that a true Prince needs not the protection of their castle.

They can roam freely among the people.
