How do you overcome the freeze of change?

Change happens to us, because of us and just because of entropy in the universe.

And in spite of all reassurances huge parts of organisations just seem to freeze when change and action is required.

"Wait (and uncertainty surely prevails)."

“Stop (and don’t get fired).”

“We are going to have a new process to follow, (so don’t move a muscle).”

“Find synergy (and use up scarce capacity in order to create synergy).” Synergy becomes work.

We should not really be surprised at the freeze that occurs in uncertain times, and yet it is often overlooked as an issue of fear and trust.

The freeze reduces capacity to change when change is needed or requested.

It creates real obstacles to getting work done.

It has a price that is ignored at peril.

Unfreezing can take an act of will but is most likely achieved more easily by genuine reassurance, understanding and empathy of leadership.

Create an environment of empowerment to continue to make good decisions within new boundaries.

Understand what has really changed, and most likely, the huge number of things that did not.

Understand what is complex and what is merely complicated

"Do we have enough information, experience training to make a good enough decision?"

Take action and succeed in breaking the freeze of change. One action oriented step.

Who?

What?

When?
